Woven Seahorse Bookmark

Get Book Week ready with a paper Woven Seahorse Bookmark!
  • Step 1Download and print out the template provided onto white cover paper. We recommend printing on cover paper as this gives a sturdy base for decoration and construction.
  • Step 2Decorate your seahorse template pieces using markers or pencils. Use contrasting colours for the weaving strips and the body to make the woven pattern easier to see in your bookmark.
  • Step 3Cut out your seahorse template pieces. We have provided a grey outline around the seahorse for easier cutting. Make sure you cut out each paper strip too. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors.
  • Step 4Mountain fold your seahorse along the dotted line. Cut carefully along the lines within your seahorse to create slits, ensuring not to cut through to the edge. Unfold your seahorse.
  • Step 5Start by inserting a weaving strip under the first slit, then up through the next slit. Continue weaving until your strip reaches the end and adjust it so that it aligns with the middle, dotted line of your seahorse. Weave each paper strip alternating each row to create a checkerboard pattern. Once you are happy with the weave, trim the ends of the strips to tidy. Glue the ends of each strip to the seahorse to secure. Allow to dry.
  • Step 6Glue the fin to the body of your seahorse and allow to dry.
  • Step 7Your Woven Seahorse Bookmark is now ready to use!
