Celebrate Chinese New Year (also known as Lunar New Year) with these fun craft ideas!

'Year of the Rabbit' Mask

Celebrate ‘Year of the Rabbit’ with a bunny mask created using a beautiful paper cutting technique. A great activity for Chinese New Year that also explores the concept of symmetry and improves scissor skills!
  • Step 1Paint your wooden bunny mask with gold paint and allow to dry completely.
  • Step 2Lay the bunny mask over a sheet of red paper and use a pencil to trace all the way around the face of the bunny and around the inside of the eye holes.
  • Step 3Carefully cut around the outside traced line on the paper. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Fold the face in half and then cut different shapes into the paper to create patterns. You may wish to draw shapes on first with pencil before cutting. Don’t forget to cut the eye holes out too!
  • Step 4Unfold the paper shape to reveal your symmetrical pattern. Glue the paper to the gold side of your wooden mask and allow to dry. Your ‘Year of the Rabbit’ Mask is now ready to use!
